Movie Review: Joker (2019)

Well I didn’t like it.

People had told me already that it’s a depressing movie with no redeeming quality. And it’s true. It is monotonous, depressing and kinda boring with not much of a character arc and story development.
But the bigger issue I have is that throughout this movie I kept thinking that oh this Joker is so dumb! He has no idea what’s going on around him and things just happen to him by accident and sheer luck. He has no control over anything.

The character Joker that I’ve always known isn’t dumb at all. He is very smart, sharp and decisive. He makes elaborate plans, thinks things through and calculates his moves. He makes things happen. He is an agent of chaos. He manipulates people, corrupts their minds, plays them like puppets. The joker shown in this movie is none of these things. He can’t even manipulate a fly if his life depended on it.

The only great thing about this movie is the acting of Joaquin Phoenix. He immersed himself in the role completely and did justice to the screenplay that was given to him.

But this isn’t the joker I’ve known since my childhood. This isn’t my cup of tea.

Two stars out of five.
