Today I had the pleasure of meeting Professor Farooq Wani. He is working in the
field of Tribology in National Institute of Technology in Srinagar,
Kashmir.
He was attending a conference in my university and somehow Allah made it possible for us to meet each other. I spent a few hours with him discussing several topics including his research, my research, the current situation in Kashmir, world politics and the history of Kashmiri people.
He turned out to be a relative of one of my uncles in Srinagar. Since the communication channels are still down in Kashmir, he offered to pass on my messages to my extended family there.
I was really impressed with his depth of knowledge, honesty, humility, work ethics and friendliness. He is about 60 years old and still he works up to 18 hours a day and conducts experiments personally in his lab with his students.
I asked him how was his experience in Japan? He said Japan is a nice country and its people are very hard working. But I don’t get impressed with anyone or any society since I read the biography of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was the best and he created the best society. Nothing else comes close.
He told me that the motto of his life is hard work and sincerity.
Not a bad motto to live by right?
